CESNUR stands for the Center for Studies on New Religions. It is an academic organization that promotes the objective and informed study of new religious movements. Indirectly, it helps any interested reader figure out that the Christian countercult movement is the religious equivalent of medical quackery. There are some very interesting sessions planned (see the conference program for details) covering a variety of religions, including Mormonism. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to attend some of the sessions on Saturday.

The Salt Lake Tribune has posted a couple of stories relating to the conference you might find interesting:

Group gathers to study new religious movements

Big news in Italy: “Twilight” author is LDS

A reminder from Morehead’s Musings that the CESNUR Conference is being held in Salt Lake City June 11-13 (Thursday through Saturday).
