Now that is notable all by itself. I can&#8217;t remember<br \/>\nwhen a newspaper had two, count &#8217;em, two Advent themed articles.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not all sweetness and light. <i>USA Today<\/i> stirs the pot by looking at one issue that is already controversial in some churches: <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/opinion\/forum\/2010-12-13-column13_ST_N.htm\">Should we sing Christmas carols in Advent?<\/a><\/b> Or should we save them all for Christmas Eve and the 12-day season of<br \/>\nChristmastide? Some church leaders support a ban on Christmas music in<br \/>\nAdvent. As you can imagine, this doesn&#8217;t go over really big with lots of<br \/>\npeople.<\/p>\n<form><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"advent-wreath-green-candles-4.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/94\/import\/photos\/advent-wreath-green-candles-4.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right;margin: 0pt 0pt 20px 20px\" height=\"287\" width=\"288\" \/><\/form>\n<p>The second <i>USA Today<\/i> column doesn&#8217;t so much highlight an existing controversy as it seeks to start one. In her column entitled, <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/opinion\/forum\/2010-12-13-column13_ST1_N.htm\">&#8220;Advent: Let&#8217;s start to heal our planet&#8221;<\/a><\/b>,<br \/>\nMallory McDuff argues that Advent is a time to come up with solutions<br \/>\nfor the problems associated with climate change. She writes, &#8220;During<br \/>\nthis season of Advent, we must not wait for polls or votes to<br \/>\nharness the power of religion for the challenge of climate change. We<br \/>\nalso need to imagine the possibilities and passions that children see in<br \/>\nthe spirit of Advent, in glittered mangers and even an elf on a shelf.<br \/>\nLet every heart prepare for innovative actions grounded in a moral<br \/>\nimperative. The time isn&#8217;t coming. It&#8217;s here.&#8221; As of this moment, the<br \/>\ncolors of Advent are purple, royal blue, and pink. I wonder if we should<br \/>\nchange to green?<\/p>\n<p>For the record, I&#8217;m pretty sure the folks in the first column who don&#8217;t<br \/>\nthink we should sing Christmas carols in Advent would not be all that<br \/>\nexcited about green candles!<\/p>\n<p>So, what do you think?
