However,<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I&#8217;d take last<br \/>\nnight&#8217;s event one step further: INSULTING.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I found both candidates incredibly condescending to the<br \/>\nviewers.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Do Senators Obama and McCain not realize that Americans are<br \/>\nhurting right now?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Vague promises,<br \/>\nwhether about spending on infrastructure or rooting out cronyism don&#8217;t give us<br \/>\nthe sense that in a time of world economic turmoil, occurring this minute,<br \/>\neither candidate understands root causes or specific steps to take.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It is not like there aren&#8217;t economists<br \/>\nout there with ideas.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Could the<br \/>\nSenators not take a few hours with a few world class economists instead of with<br \/>\ntheir spin doctors to learn how they might proceed to talk to us over the next<br \/>\nmonth?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Last night we heard brief actual responses to questioners<br \/>\nsegue into the same canned mini-speeches heard in the last debate and daily at<br \/>\ncampaign stops.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We deserve more<br \/>\nthan that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0Of course, no discussion of any constitutional issues we<br \/>\ntalk about regularly; to say nothing of no suggestions on Supreme Court<br \/>\nnominees (although even considering naming Warren Buffett the new Treasury<br \/>\nSecretary was one of the few specifics we heard.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u00a0One final point. You and I have had hundreds of exchanges in<br \/>\nnewspapers, on radio and television.<span>\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span>We see the world in ways so different sometimes I think we are literally<br \/>\nviewing different planets.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>But I<br \/>\ncan&#8217;t imagine one of us using a dismissive phrase like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lNzA9LfMlmU\">&#8220;that one&#8221;<\/a> (McCain<br \/>\ndescribing his colleague Obama) as we snarl out an answer. A member of the Washington, D.C. and U.S. Supreme Court bar, Lynn earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978.
