{"id":151,"date":"2009-04-06T17:06:41","date_gmt":"2009-04-06T17:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/lynnvsekulow\/2009\/04\/us-sovereignty-at-risk-with-ob.html"},"modified":"2009-04-06T17:06:41","modified_gmt":"2009-04-06T17:06:41","slug":"us-sovereignty-at-risk-with-ob","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/lynnvsekulow\/2009\/04\/us-sovereignty-at-risk-with-ob.html","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Sovereignty at Risk With Obama?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">In this space, we talk about a variety of issues &#8211; mostly along &#8216;church\/state&#8217; lines.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Barry, I am concerned about something I see developing in our &#8216;state&#8217; &#8211; in our nation &#8211; and I want to see what you think.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><font face=\"Calibri\">What is troubling to me is a new &#8211; and what I believe &#8211; is a dangerous direction that President Obama is pursuing.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I am not alone in expressing concern about the Administration&#8217;s new strategy of internationalism &#8211; embracing foreign and economic policies that may very well put U.S. sovereignty at risk. <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><font face=\"Calibri\">Through its foreign and economic policies, the Administration is embracing an ideology of global governance &#8211; a strategy that may put at risk our national sovereignty &#8211; our constitutional framework &#8211; all in the interest of international cooperation.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">Here&#8217;s one example.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The Administration is reversing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/2009\/0401\/p02s01-usfp.html\">long-standing U.S. policy&nbsp;<\/a> refraining from participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council, which includes member nations that are among the most egregious violators of human rights in the world.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">And, there&#8217;s growing controversy surrounding the Obama Administration&#8217;s nomination of Harold Koh, Dean of the Yale Law School, as the top legal counsel in the U.S. Department of State.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Critics say Koh endorses an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishworldreview.com\/cols\/gaffney033109.php3\">&#8216;international-first&#8217; philosophy<\/a>&nbsp; that puts the interests of the global community above our own.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And, there&#8217;s concern about how <a href=\"http:\/\/bench.nationalreview.com\/post\/?q=NmNiMDk2NDcyZWI2MTY2NzVjYzk2YjIxNDc1YWE0YWU=\">Koh views <\/a>the proper role international law should play in the U.S. saying it is &#8220;appropriate for the Supreme Court to construe our Constitution in light of foreign and international law&#8221; in a variety of situations.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">Barry, it&#8217;s one thing to talk about cooperation, but it&#8217;s very dangerous to embrace a philosophy where the United States is put in a position to be subservient to the European Union or the United Nations.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>This &#8216;transnationalist&#8217; approach is something our Founding Fathers never envisioned and never supported when they drafted our unique and defining Constitution.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And, it&#8217;s a topic that generated a lot of discussion and debate when I discussed this a few days ago with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&amp;streamingFormat=FLASH&amp;referralObject=4158748&amp;referralPlaylistId=playlist\">Glenn Beck on FOX News<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\"><span><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Calibri\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">Here&#8217;s the deal.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>There&#8217;s nothing wrong with cooperation in a global environment.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>That is expected and necessary.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But the United States &#8211; with its unique form of government &#8211; must not be placed in a position where it cedes its independence.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The U.S. is a sovereign world leader and must not surrender its autonomy.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span><font size=\"5\">To subscribe to &#8220;Lynn v.
