She will help him out as much as she can. Though he doesn’t want her to. Mother and son clash, as they can do.

Explosive moments come when Mom and son come to boiling point and are not getting along. Andy just wants her to go away.

The sexual theme comes up—is Andy unmarried because he has a sexual problem? He is disgusted to talk about that.

However, this movie isn’t strongly argumentative. Most times the mother-son problems are done with a gentle touch and light comedy.

Growing together

We know they both love one another underneath. A road trip together gives them time to unlock their love.

However, the road trip comes from a different place all together. Andy has ulterior motive. He takes Joyce on a road trip for eight days, while he is at meetings selling his cleaning product to companies, because he wants to get his Mom to see her old flame–someone she was in a “passionate” relationship with before she got married.

The son is really dying inside because he can’t handle the news that Mom fancied her former lover more than his Dad. It’s one of those family secrets that get spilled.

Despite this potential problem, spending time together on the road trip has an indelible effect on their relationship. Mother and son bond like best friends. There is relational growth. All it took was spending time. Though there are a few mishaps along the way, what a good way to do it, what is ultimately a relaxing road trip with good times.

The mother and son who spend time together grow together.
