Miss Potter<\/em> is about the beautiful imagination\u2014Beatrix Potter\u2019s illustrated animal creations, with a story. There\u2019s also a lovely love story in this film.<\/p>\n

Beatrix and her publisher are at first on working relations. The publisher Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor) supervises her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit.<\/p>\n

Unexpected is love in these kinds of working relationships. Nevertheless the affections grow between Beatrix and Norman and they fall \u2018head over heels\u2019 in love.<\/p>\n

Beatrix\u2019s smitten and so is he, but her parents are less than enchanted with the situation.<\/p>\n

Love on hold<\/h4>\n

In the \u2018upstairs, downstairs\u2019 world in the early 1900\u2019s England, daughters were expected to marry \u2018up the ladder\u2019 rather than \u2018down\u2019. Norman Warne wasn\u2019t exactly what Beatrix\u2019s parents wanted for her daughter, but according to Beatrix, love conquers all. Full stop and end of story.<\/p>\n

Not the end of story. Her parents come up with conditions for their strong willed daughter before she considers marriage.\u00a0 Even so, Beatrix is adamant that Norman and her love will conquer their conditions.<\/p>\n

According to her parents, two months away in the country will determine if Beatrix\u2019s emotion for Norman is only infatuation.<\/p>\n

No it\u2019s not, says Beatrix, but she agrees to go, because at the end of it, her love will still be the same.\u00a0She just knows beyond doubt. It is one of those things where you \u2018know that you know\u2019 despite what others say and do. She does not think about if she’s wrong.\u00a0 Her feelings for Norman, she says, are true.<\/p>\n

Norman and Beatrix correspond through letters [i.e. the hand written type] while she\u2019s away. Today, this may look like email, or chat, or texting, but the Miss Potter<\/em> situation is so far removed from today. Miss Potter<\/em> is one of those old fashioned love stories where the distance between couples is measured in train stops and not broadband.<\/p>\n

But tragedy strikes and to the fore is the universal theme of tragedy that everyone may understand.<\/p>\n

Unexpected and unfortunate this is, but life cannot be put on hold, even at times like this.<\/p>\n

Besides, Beatrix\u2019s bold, brilliant imagination is too good to let go.<\/p>\n
