{"id":1039,"date":"2016-09-04T10:27:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-04T10:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/lifeatthemovies\/?p=1039"},"modified":"2016-11-22T05:53:36","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T05:53:36","slug":"outrageous-laughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/lifeatthemovies\/2016\/09\/outrageous-laughter.html","title":{"rendered":"Outrageous laughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The process of hilarious comedy should go like this: a witty line, followed by another witty line, then another, and then another where you are cracking up with laughter at its peak.<\/p>\n<p>Then, there must be a come down or we would burst and a short momentary break in the comedy, when the film straightens its tone.<\/p>\n<p>Then another very witty line which makes you crack up, followed by another line, which makes you almost fall off the seat.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how a hilarious comedy scene should work.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, comedy tastes vary, so what makes you laugh, won\u2019t necessary make me laugh, and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p>What a kind of laughter when comedy does work.<\/p>\n<p>Laughing with comedy is like a peak of human experience. The moment of laughter is a most uncontrollable response that\u2019s pleasurable and hits us right in the middle, where we feel, and hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Then, it releases tension and relaxes the muscles.<\/p>\n<p>The hurt seems less, and we feel so much better.<\/p>\n<p>Laughing releases painful emotions.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also about laughing at things that stimulate us and trigger our senses of humor. It\u2019s as simple as that.<\/p>\n<p>What works for you, may not work for me.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve had those moments when I\u2019m cracking up at the movies, but those moments, when they are genuine, are few. I guess you just have to catch the moment when it comes or be in the mood.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not really a comedy aficionado, though, who can laugh easily at the movies. I\u2019m more likely to be amused, have a giggle here or there, and admire some cleverness, though not crack up at it.
