About a month ago I was on the radio talk show \u2018Tell Me Your Story\u2019. Host Richard Dugan and I had a great time talking about everything from Conscious Living to kids. After almost an hour, the interview was coming to a close. With 4 minutes left, Richard said to me, \u2018Before we go, let me ask you this\u2026\u2019Who Is Christine Agro?\u2019<\/p>\n

It’s never a good thing to be speechless during an interview, but it almost happened. It wasn\u2019t that I didn\u2019t have anything to say, but I think ,since I was in \u2018interview mode\u2019 my first inclination was to answer with what I do \u2013 I\u2019m a Clairvoyant, A Naturopath, A Master Herbalist. \u00a0As thoughts formed in my head though, I found myself mentally editing with \u2018\u2026but that\u2019s not who<\/em> I am?\u2019 I know that I am not defined by what I do. After what seemed like a long pause, although I\u2019m assured that it wasn\u2019t, I know I responded with something.<\/p>\n

Richard\u2019s question has me thinking about how we define ourselves. When we are asked about ourselves or asked to describe ourselves, we talk about what we do, or the type of person we are. We talk about the role we play: we\u2019re a mother, or a wife, or a daughter or a sister. We talk about what we do: We\u2019re a lawyer, or a stay-at-home-mom.\u00a0 We talk about our qualities: We\u2019re a good friend or a devoted spouse.\u00a0 But are any of these things \u2018who we are? Or are they all a byproduct of who we are?<\/p>\n

It can be dangerous if our identity is wrapped up in what we do, the roles we play or the way that we are seen by others. If your friendship ends, does that mean you are no longer a good friend? If you get fired or your company goes bankrupt do you stop existing because you are no longer a lawyer? Or your kids grow-up and leave the home \u2013 are you still a stay-at-home-mom or do you find yourself feeling lost?<\/p>\n

I think more importantly than defining who we are, is considering how we want to show up in our lives? How do we want our lives to unfold? What is important to us?<\/p>\n

These questions allow us to be flexible and moveable, to define our own sense of self and embrace who we are from moment to moment. \u00a0Our lives are always changing, our roles are always shifting. If we approach our lives with a sense of adventure and we continually explore how and in what way we want our lives to unfold and in what way we want to show up in our lives, we won\u2019t find ourselves feeling empty or lost when life changes.<\/p>\n

So maybe the question isn\u2019t \u201cWho Am I?\u201d, but rather \u201cWho Do I Want To Be?\u201d<\/p>\n
