FRIDAY WISDOM is based on Christine Agro’s Conscious Living Wisdom Cards<\/a> (The Special Moms’ Edition)<\/p>\n

Today I drew the Adventure Card. This is one of my favorite cards out of the 42. When we lived in Brooklyn, NY we walked everywhere. We didn\u2019t have a car and by the time we waited for a bus to arrive, we could be half way if not all the way to our destination by walking. I often would see parents dragging their kids kicking and screaming down the street or pushing a five-year-old around in a stroller. But for our family, Brooklyn set the stage for every outing to be an adventure. It didn\u2019t matter if we were going to the grocery store, the post office or the Natural History Museum, every time we left the house my husband or I would say, \u201cAre you ready for an adventure?\u201d What this created for Caidin, and for us in turn, was the excitement to see what our trip out into the world would bring us? What would we find? What would we discover?<\/p>\n

I was able to walk Caidin to school every day and I always added extra time so that we could stop and watch an icicle melt or observe the day-to-day blooming of the Magnolia tree.<\/p>\n

Even though we tend to drive everywhere now, I still add in extra time to get to school in case we see a flock of wild turkey, or a deer crossing, or see something interesting to explore. We don\u2019t use the word \u2018adventure\u2019 so much anymore but I can see that the idea of life as an adventure is a part of who Caidin is and will always be. Caidin loves to explore and take the time to look at things more closely. He is curious and inquisitive and wants to know as much about things as is possible.<\/p>\n

There is magic, wonder and excitement everywhere in our world and in our lives. As Conscious Parents, it\u2019s our opportunity to rediscover it for ourselves and then pass the passion of living life fully along to our kids.<\/p>\n

Here is what I wrote in the guide book about Adventure:<\/p>\n

For Your Child<\/strong><\/p>\n

Excitement and discovery aren\u2019t only for African safaris and cross-country treks.\u00a0 Adventure can occur in the most common everyday experiences; it all depends on how you view the world.\u00a0\u00a0 Teaching your child to view the world as an adventure will encourage her* to approach new experiences and even challenges with a sense of openness and curiosity.\u00a0 And if your bank account doesn\u2019t allow for extras like going to movies or taking trips, your ability to create adventure out of, say, planting a tree will, in the end, be a greater gift to your child. Why not get started now?\u00a0 Whether you are heading out the door to the doctor\u2019s office or down the street to the gas station, use the word ‘adventure’\u00a0as you set out. Set out on an expedition and see what new things you find. Wherever you go, look for shapes, colors, symbols and new growth around you. Talk about what you see and look for differences from and similarities to the things your child is already familiar with.\u00a0 In addition to creating adventure in her life, your child will be learning about the world every step of the way.\u00a0 Encourage your child\u2019s sense of wonder and share in her excitement about things you have long taken for granted.\u00a0 Both you and she will benefit greatly and you\u2019ll both have fun along the way!<\/p>\n

The guide book includes insight for you which is meant to help you live life more consciously as well as insight for your child, which is meant to help support you in your Conscious Parenting.
