20 beautiful lights are lost and it is unfathomable. It has touched us all \u2013 young and old; Republican and Conservative, and from near and far.<\/p>\n

Let not the lives of these beautiful children be lost in vain.<\/p>\n

These children no longer have a voice, we must be their voice. We must speak up and speak out and tell those who make our laws and shape our world that we want change.<\/p>\n

This is not the world I want to live in. Is it the world you want to live in?<\/p>\n

If we sit back and think \u2018my voice won\u2019t make a difference,\u2019 nothing will change.<\/p>\n

Let not the lives of these beautiful children be lost in vain.<\/p>\n

Change is internal as much as it is external. In fact I believe what we do has a ripple effect.<\/p>\n

I believe if we choose to create change within; to live a life of conscious awareness, to put forth positive energy and positive thoughts, it will make a difference.<\/p>\n

I believe that harsh music and violent images affect us emotionally, physically and mentally and that has a ripple effect.<\/p>\n

I believe as parents it is our duty to say \u2018no\u2019 you can\u2019t do that, or watch that or listen to that and to explain why, but I think even more importantly it is our duty to fill our lives and our children\u2019s lives with that which we want them to have.<\/p>\n

You can say \u2018nothing will make a difference, evil will always be present.\u2019 And this is true, but evil flourishes when we do nothing to stop it.<\/p>\n

In the dark of all of this, I laughed when a Facebook post started to circulate attributed to Morgan Freeman. I laughed because I think his PR people spend a good deal of time disclaiming things attributed to him, and letting people know, contrary to Facebook postings, he is indeed still alive. But the post, regardless of who it was written by, was poignant. It addressed the hype and sensationalization the media gives these types of events. What is it about us as humans that we need to be immersed in someone else\u2019s pain, not only immersed but for 24 hours a day. It is their pain. We can relate, we can sympathize, we grieve with them, we can hopefully learn, but do we need to immerse ourselves in it?<\/p>\n

The fake Morgan Freeman says \u2018turn off the news\u2019 and I agree. If you want to tell network executives that \u2018this isn\u2019t the news you want to hear,\u2019 turn it off.<\/p>\n

There are so many things we can do to make a difference, but we have come to believe there is nothing we can do, so we in fact do nothing.<\/p>\n

Everything we do, big and small, to create positive change can and does make a difference.<\/p>\n

Whether you say ‘hello’ to a stranger, hold the door, say ‘thank you’, give a dollar, speak up when something isn’t right, take a stand or fight for change, everything makes a difference.<\/p>\n

Change the way you think, the way you talk, the way you eat, the way you see, the way you show up. Everything we change for the better will create positive ripples.<\/p>\n

Let not the lives of these beautiful children be lost in vain.<\/p>\n
