A glance through the glass reveals a world of possibilities: a $50 goat for a family in Africa or 200 ready-made meals for a Chicago homeless shelter for just $35.<\/p>\n<p>The Church funds all operational expenses for the program, ensuring that every dollar donated directly provides the purchased item to those in need.<\/p>\n<p>If you can imagine buying it, the campaign has created a way for you to give it. In fact, m<span class=\"TextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">ore than 500 local and international nonprofit organizations <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">are<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\"> participat<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">ing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\"> in this year\u2019s Giving Machine initiative. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">Items available include<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\"> food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education, job and career training, and livestock.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year <span class=\"TextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\">the machines have made it all the way to the <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">Santa Claus House at the<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW60986308 BCX0\">North Pole, in Alaska, where Santa himself attended <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org\/article\/giving-machines-spread-christmas-cheer-in-north-pole\">a ribbon-cutting ceremony<\/a> on Friday, November 22, 2024<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Lighting the World Through a Giving Machine<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5320\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5320\" style=\"width: 724px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5320\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/452\/2024\/11\/Santa_BNicholson_Giving_Machine_North_Pole_627.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"724\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5320\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Give the world a gift at the press of a button. These machines are placed in key locations, allowing passers-by to give rather than to receive, which is always &#8220;better&#8221; anyway (Acts 20:35).<\/p>\n<p>From Alaska to Florida, Michigan to Texas, the Church uses its transcontinental network to maximize awareness and giving for this important effort.<\/p>\n<p>Five continents, 13 countries, and 107 cities around the world are all touched by the Christmas spirit through these mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>A swipe or a tap unlocks the magic of these ruby-red giving machines that allow others to give from $5 to $250. Each dollar will go to local charities working together for the grandiose &#8220;Light the World&#8221; holiday effort.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cLight the World is our message of glad tidings, which we\u2019re assured will bring joy to all people because of Jesus Christ \u2014 because of His birth, because of His ministry, and because of His resurrection,\u201d said Elder Gary E. To date, the campaign has raised over $32 million for charitable causes.<\/p>\n<p>The global charities featured this year include The Academy for Creating Enterprise, American Red Cross, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, Church World Service, Days for Girls International, iDE Global, Lifting Hands International, MAP International, Mentors International, Right to Play, Save the Children, UNICEF, WaterAid, and the World Food Program. When someone makes a choice, the machine drops a postcard picturing your donation and a gift description.<\/p>\n<p>Every city also has its own unique challenges and the Giving Machines also support local charities in the locations they are placed in.
