A Christian publishing company has created a first-of-its-kind Bible<\/a> for children and students with dyslexia.\u00a0According to the International Dyslexia Association<\/a>, one in five U.S. children has some form of dyslexia, which speaks to the importance of this youth Bible<\/span>.<\/p>\n

A common misunderstanding about children with dyslexia is that they can’t read, which is far from the truth. The Child Mind Institute states,<\/a> “dyslexia is not a reflection of a child\u2019s intelligence \u2014 it\u2019s defined as a gap between a student\u2019s ability and achievement.” The neurological condition is more than reversing letters when reading. Children with dyslexia struggle with rhymes and find it difficult to take notes and sound out words. Most importantly, reading is laborious for them. It’s more than difficult; it can be humiliating.<\/p>\n

This is the catalyst for the Christian Standard Bible (CSB)\u00ae Grace Bible for Kids from Lifeway<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cKids who feel intimidated by reading can feel comfortable with this new typeface in a Bible that\u2019s made specifically with them in mind,\u201d said Lifeway President Ben Mandrell. \u201cDyslexia shouldn\u2019t keep kids from reading the Bible. Dyslexia does more damage than the numbers tell. It’s known that 80 to 90 percent of children with learning disorders have dyslexia, but it is often misdiagnosed as ADHD or not discovered at all. There are many myths about dyslexia<\/a>, but one that Lifeway connected with was that “dyslexia cannot be diagnosed until third grade.”<\/p>\n

The truth is it can be detected and treated as early as age five, which is a primary reason why the CSB Bible is designed for children up to age 12. The exclusive Bible features an inclusive reading approach with visual processing cues and an academically tested typeface from \u00a0typeface design company 2K\/DENMARK<\/a> and Cambridge University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are dyslexic, sometimes you see letters as bouncing balloons because they don\u2019t stay on the baseline. In designing the Grace typeface, we made sure to fix the letters to the baseline by making them heavier towards the bottom,\u201d said Klaus Krogh, founder of 2K\/DENMARK.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Utilizing the Grace typeface is a labor of love for Krogh, who began developing it over five years ago. Working alongside Cambridge University for the testing, the typeface assists readers in distinguishing between similar letters such as \u201cm\u201d and \u201cn\u201d or \u201cp\u201d and \u201cq.\u201d<\/p>\n

The stylized changes can be seen as soon as someone turns the pages, focusing on kerning, spacing, and tracking, adding space between letters, lines, and words.<\/p>\n
