{"id":3546,"date":"2024-09-14T04:57:49","date_gmt":"2024-09-14T08:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/latestnews\/?p=3546"},"modified":"2024-09-12T17:58:41","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T21:58:41","slug":"the-ohio-state-university-football-players-lead-a-campus-revival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/latestnews\/2024\/09\/14\/the-ohio-state-university-football-players-lead-a-campus-revival\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ohio State University football players lead a campus revival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before the first kickoff of college football, the Spirit of God broke the huddle with His own play on the campus of The Ohio State University.<\/p>\n<p>According to the student-run newspaper\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelantern.com\/2024\/08\/ohio-state-football-players-participate-in-christian-baptism-ceremony-outside-of-curl-market-over-800-gather-to-observe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Lantern<\/a><\/em>, a planned Christian revival was open to the public. Nothing out of the ordinary was planned for this service, except who helped lead it &#8212; OSU running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau, and former OSU wide receiver Kamryn Babb.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the players began speaking, the word spread and students appeared. At the revival service:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Approximately 800 to 1,000 people attended<\/li>\n<li>10,000 Bibles were given out to believers and non-believers<\/li>\n<li>60 people were baptized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event organizers, comprised of several churches from the Columbus area, set up four tubs filled with water for the impromptu baptism service to end the campus event.<\/p>\n<div class=\"swn-mop-premium\">\n<h2>Buckeyes Speak Out About Their Faith<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3588\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3588\" style=\"width: 780px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3588\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/452\/2024\/09\/OSU-revival-service.png\" alt=\"Ohio State University football players lead a campus revival service\" width=\"780\" height=\"368\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3588\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On August 25, Ohio State University football players led a campus revival (Image Credit: @AlanaTempleton via Twitter)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6361225939112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interview with\u00a0Fox News<\/a> following the Christian event, Babb, whose career ended due to four ACL-related injuries, shared that many people gathered because \u201ceverybody is looking for some sort of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think the human condition wants hope. We throw around the words, hope, love \u2014 all these different words \u2014 and I think those things that we\u2019re looking for, that we\u2019re searching for can only be found in Jesus,\u201d Babb said.\u00a0\u201cIt was an honor to see my Lord and my Savior move the way that he did, and it was only because of him. It was all to bring him glory. It wasn\u2019t about a football team. It wasn\u2019t about anything else besides Jesus Christ and this country, America.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Attendees reported the service involved praise and worship and a brief exhortation from God&#8217;s Word. This was followed by some Ohio State University football players sharing their testimonies and encouraging others to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Then came the ice tubs from the locker room, where people were led and received Bibles for themselves and others they knew.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe were praying for years and years for an event like this, and we were praying with expectation. We serve a miracle-working God,\u201d said Egbuka, OSU&#8217;s top wide receiver this season. \u201cSo we definitely had an expectation when it came out, but God did increasingly and abundantly more than we thought. Speaking to the podcast <i>Sports Spectrum<\/i>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sports_Spectrum\/status\/1829219716445155702\">Henderson said<\/a>: \u201cGod is using this team to bring people closer to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Henderson is no stranger to sharing his faith, either. His Twitter profile bio reads: &#8220;Jesus Saved My Life | Servant of Jesus Christ | Running Back | Investor.&#8221; Back in July, he invested in soul-winning with this note on X:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m living proof of what the mercy of God can do, for all the things I\u2019ve done and the choices made that I regret I would still be lost. People are praying for the team and not just to win on Saturdays. The city is uniting behind an ardent belief in God.
