{"id":1069,"date":"2008-02-14T12:53:45","date_gmt":"2008-02-14T12:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jwalking\/2008\/02\/understanding-the-gospels-from.html"},"modified":"2008-02-14T12:53:45","modified_gmt":"2008-02-14T12:53:45","slug":"understanding-the-gospels-from","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jwalking\/2008\/02\/understanding-the-gospels-from.html","title":{"rendered":"Understanding the Gospels from Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For these past days as my fellow bloggers and I have gone through Uganda, I have gained a new appreciation for the Gospels.<br \/>\nRead <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ragamuffinsoul.com\">Carlos<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shlog.com\">Shaun<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flowerdust.net\">Anne<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/randyelrod.typepad.com\/\">Randy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.compassion.com\/share\/uganda-blog.htm\">my other friends<\/a> and see their different and beautiful takes on what we&#8217;ve seen. In reading it understand that we have all seen the same things, been to the same places. And our stories all just a little bit different.<br \/>\nThis has lead me to think a lot about four different writers &#8211; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It has also given me a new appreciation for their different and similar stories.<br \/>\nMany look at the Gospel accounts and the contradictions that are there &#8211; different accounts of similar stories&#8230; most notably on resurrection Sunday &#8211; and use them as evidence that they must be false or unreliable.<br \/>\nThere is a far simpler explanation &#8211; different lenses and perspectives on the same incredible, moving, awesome, incomprehensible events&#8230; sort of like our little group here in Uganda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For these past days as my fellow bloggers and I have gone through Uganda, I have gained a new appreciation for the Gospels.
