{"id":1019,"date":"2008-01-23T19:58:19","date_gmt":"2008-01-23T19:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jwalking\/2008\/01\/more-whining-christians.html"},"modified":"2008-01-23T19:58:19","modified_gmt":"2008-01-23T19:58:19","slug":"more-whining-christians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jwalking\/2008\/01\/more-whining-christians.html","title":{"rendered":"More whining Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Family Association and Catholic League <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afa.net\/emails\/transform.asp?x=espn_012308&amp;s=browser&amp;y=2008&amp;m=01\">are all atwitter<\/a> over a foul-mouthed ESPN reporter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>ESPN and its parent company, ABC, have refused to take any action against ESPN anchorwoman Dana Jacobson for her hateful, slurring remarks against Jesus, saying &#8220;F&#8211; &#8212; Jesus.&#8221;<br \/>\nOn January 11, Jacobson was speaking at a celebrity roast in Atlantic City, N.J., when she unleashed a profane tirade, saying, &#8220;F&#8212; Notre Dame,&#8221; &#8220;F&#8212; Touchdown Jesus&#8221; and finally &#8220;F&#8212; Jesus.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Touchdown Jesus&#8221; is the popular moniker for a statue of Jesus raising his arms, located on the Notre Dame campus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, what she said was nasty. Yes, what she said would have gotten her fired if it were directed at (take your pick) Jews, gays, African-Americans, Hispanics, or women.<br \/>\nBut isn&#8217;t forgiveness what Christians are supposed to be about? Instead of protesting against Jacobson, instead of whining about her remarks to ABC, issue a statement of forgiveness.
