Remember Touchdown Jesus, the statue of Christ in Ohio that was hit by lightning and burned to the ground?!<\/p>\n

Well, appropriately for this time of year, Christ shall rise again.<\/p>\n

But it won’t be the same Christ. The new “Christ” (an artist’s conception pictured above) will feature more of a “zombie-offering-free-hugs Jesus” as opposed to a “Touchdown Jesus”.<\/p>\n

According to Journal-News… <\/a><\/p>\n

Tom Tsuchiya\u2019s replacement for \u201cKing of Kings\u201d \u2014 the sculpture commonly known as \u201cTouchdown Jesus\u201d that once occupied the reflecting pond between the Solid Rock Church and Interstate 75 in Monroe \u2014 is still in the planning stage, but already it\u2019s started to pick up some nicknames.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tsuchiya addressed Katherine Bender\u2019s advanced sculpture class at Ross High School Tuesday, talking about his processes and updating the students on some of his projects in progress.<\/em><\/p>\n

His sculpture to replace \u201cKing of Kings\u201d will be installed this summer and fall, Tsuchiya said. It will be constructed of steel, foam and an acrylic aggregate material that will be mixed with ground stone so that it \u201cwon\u2019t look all buttery,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It will also have a lightning rod and won\u2019t be as flammable as its predecessor, which was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire in June 2010.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hopefully not as scary and will look a little more inviting and friendly,\u201d Tsuchiya said.
