Since Jason Boyett<\/a> and I are good friends, I thought it would be more meaningful to my blog readers if somebody other than myself reviewed his latest book O Me of Little Faith<\/em><\/a>. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED Jason’s book! But he and I always slobber all over each others’ books… So in hopes of offering a less biased review (and one that didn’t contain saliva), I asked my friend Adam<\/a> to read and review Jason’s O Me of Little Faith<\/em>…<\/p>\n

I have always enjoyed Jason Boyett\u2019s writing. I became familiar with him when, on a whim, I picked up his \u201cPocket Guide to the Apocalypse\u201d.\u00a0 His good-natured sarcasm, combined with the fact that he takes the time to \u201cknow what he\u2019s talking about\u201d had me at \u201cHello\u201d.\u00a0 Since then, I\u2019ve read several of his other \u201cPocket Guides\u201d and I follow his blog.\u00a0 When Boyett announced that he was releasing a new book with the provocative\u00a0 title, \u201cO Me of Little Faith\u201d, it would be an understatement to say that I was interested in reading it.<\/p>\n

Now that I\u2019ve read it, I must confess that Jason Boyett has created a problem for me.\u00a0 On one hand, he seems to have unknowingly written his book about me.\u00a0 I am a confirmed doubter.\u00a0 For me, faith and doubt are like eternal dance partners.\u00a0 It seems to me that \u201cfaith\u201d is more closely related to words like \u201ctrust\u201d, \u201cconfidence\u201d, \u201chope\u201d, \u201ccommitment\u201d, and has less to do with words like \u201ccertainty\u201d or \u201cconvinced\u201d.\u00a0 I can\u2019t turn off the questions.\u00a0 I don\u2019t generally find books on apologetics helpful.\u00a0 I resonate with the man who cried out to Jesus \u201cLord, I do believe.\u00a0 Help my unbelief\u201d in the gospel account.\u00a0 On the other hand, not everyone is like me.\u00a0 I\u2019ve found that some people aren\u2019t given to such incessant questioning, and that the things that are issues for me aren\u2019t issues for them.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s my problem:\u00a0 Jason Boyett has written a beautiful, hopeful, gut-wrenchingly honest book for people like me.\u00a0 I can\u2019t even begin to tell you how refreshingly helpful it was, and how much life it breathed back into my faith.\u00a0 But, at the same time, I realize (as Boyett seems to) that for people who aren\u2019t like me, this book could be devastating.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t shy away from hard questions, and he doesn\u2019t answer them.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t defend the status-quo.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t whitewash problems.\u00a0 He makes no attempt to win any debates.\u00a0 He speaks with poignant honesty as one who is deeply committed to hope.\u00a0 I can\u2019t recommend this book to every Christian I know.\u00a0 However, I know that\u00a0 I will, without hesitation direct my fellow faithful doubters to this beacon of hope.\u00a0 it is a well of living water that I will return to again and again.<\/p>\n
