{"id":6682,"date":"2010-08-25T12:05:38","date_gmt":"2010-08-25T12:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jesuscreed\/2010\/08\/our-common-prayerbook-29-3.html"},"modified":"2010-08-25T12:05:38","modified_gmt":"2010-08-25T12:05:38","slug":"our-common-prayerbook-29-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jesuscreed\/2010\/08\/our-common-prayerbook-29-3.html","title":{"rendered":"Our Common Prayerbook 29 &#8211; 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Psalm 29 has a natural (and profoundly theological) progression: it begins by summoning the &#8220;sons of Elohim&#8221; (heavenly beings) to worship God, and this seems to be a way of getting all humans to see that the idols must turn in their work to YHWH.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Then the psalmist declares the gloriousness of the &#8220;Voice&#8221; of YHWH.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now in the last two verses the psalmist announces that YHWH sits enthroned over all:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>First, the psalm describes YHWH&#8217;s enthronement: YHWH reigns over the waters; and he sits enthroned as the Eternal King.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\">\n<div>\n<p class=\"poetry\">Everyone in his temple says, &#8220;Majestic!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"poetry\"><span class=\"vref\" style=\"font-weight: bold\">29:10<\/span>&nbsp;The&nbsp;<span class=\"sc\" style=\"font-variant: small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;sits enthroned over the engulfing waters,<\/p>\n<p class=\"poetry\">the&nbsp;<span class=\"sc\" style=\"font-variant: small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;sits enthroned as the eternal king.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Times\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><b><\/p>\n<div><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Times\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\"><b><br \/><\/b><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: normal\">Now it turns to the value of the enthronement for humans.
