Psalm 29 has a natural (and profoundly theological) progression: it begins by summoning the “sons of Elohim” (heavenly beings) to worship God, and this seems to be a way of getting all humans to see that the idols must turn in their work to YHWH. <\/p>\n

Then the psalmist declares the gloriousness of the “Voice” of YHWH.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Now in the last two verses the psalmist announces that YHWH sits enthroned over all:<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
First, the psalm describes YHWH’s enthronement: YHWH reigns over the waters; and he sits enthroned as the Eternal King.<\/div>\n

Everyone in his temple says, “Majestic!”<\/p>\n

29:10<\/span> The Lord<\/span> sits enthroned over the engulfing waters,<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span> sits enthroned as the eternal king.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Now it turns to the value of the enthronement for humans. Because YHWH is enthroned over all, YHWH provides strength and that strength gives YHWH’s people, Israel, security.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

29:11<\/span> The Lord<\/span> gives his people strength;<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span> grants his people security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

29:1<\/span> Acknowledge the Lord<\/span>, you heavenly beings,<\/p>\n

acknowledge the Lord<\/span>‘s majesty and power!<\/p>\n

29:2<\/span> Acknowledge the majesty of the Lord<\/span>‘s reputation!<\/p>\n

Worship the Lord<\/span> in holy attire!<\/p>\n

29:3<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout is heard over the water;<\/p>\n

the majestic God thunders,<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span> appears over the surging water.<\/p>\n

29:4<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout is powerful,<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span>‘s shout is majestic.<\/p>\n

29:5<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout breaks the cedars,<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span> shatters the cedars of Lebanon.<\/p>\n

29:6<\/span> He makes Lebanon skip like a calf<\/p>\n

and Sirion like a young ox.<\/p>\n

29:7<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout strikes with flaming fire.<\/p>\n

29:8<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout shakes the wilderness,<\/p>\n

the Lord<\/span> shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.<\/p>\n

29:9<\/span> The Lord<\/span>‘s shout bends the large trees<\/p>\n

and strips the leaves from the forests.<\/p>\n
