Again, the psalmist is unafraid to make his claim of innocence and therefore give reasons to God for delivering him. I wonder if praying like this will both bolster our confidence and, at the very same time, remind us of our own unworthiness.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Those who have no integrity may plea for God&#8217;s mercy and find it; those who have integrity can plea for God&#8217;s mercy and more basis for leaning on God to grant mercy (see Goldingay, <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0801027039?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0801027039\">Psalms, Vol. 1: Psalms 1-41<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0801027039\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em>).<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>6 I wash my hands in innocence,&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>and go about your altar, LORD,&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>7 proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>8 &nbsp;&nbsp;\tLORD, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>9 Do not take away my soul along with sinners, my life with those who are bloodthirsty, 10 in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>11 I lead a blameless life; redeem me and be merciful to me.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>12 &nbsp;&nbsp;\tMy feet stand on level ground; in the great congregation I will praise the LORD.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He leads a life of innocence and keeps his hands clean; he declares the deeds of YHWH; he loves God&#8217;s Temple, and then he interrupts &#8212; another example of soul-ish wandering &#8212; with a plea for deliverance (which makes v. 1 more clear).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Then he resumes asserting his case of innocence before YHWH in v. 11: blamelessness.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So he returns to his plea: redeem me and be merciful (v. 11) because his feet are on high ground (v. 12).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nPsa. 26:1 &nbsp;&nbsp;\tVindicate me, LORD,<br \/>\nfor I have led a blameless life;<br \/>\nI have trusted in the LORD<br \/>\nand have not faltered.<br \/>\n2 \tTest me, LORD, and try me,<br \/>\nexamine my heart and my mind;<br \/>\n3 \tfor I have always been mindful of your unfailing love<br \/>\nand have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.<br \/>\nPsa. 26:4 &nbsp;&nbsp;\tI do not sit with the deceitful,<br \/>\nnor do I associate with hypocrites.<br \/>\n5 \tI abhor the assembly of evildoers<br \/>\nand refuse to sit with the wicked.<br \/>\n6 \tI wash my hands in innocence,<br \/>\nand go about your altar, LORD,<br \/>\n7 \tproclaiming aloud your praise<br \/>\nand telling of all your wonderful deeds.<br \/>\nPsa. 26:8  &nbsp;&nbsp;\tLORD, I love the house where you live,<br \/>\nthe place where your glory dwells.<br \/>\n9 \tDo not take away my soul along with sinners,<br \/>\nmy life with those who are bloodthirsty,<br \/>\n10 \tin whose hands are wicked schemes,<br \/>\nwhose right hands are full of bribes.<br \/>\n11 \tI lead a blameless life;<br \/>\nredeem me and be merciful to me.<br \/>\nPsa. 26:12  &nbsp;&nbsp;\tMy feet stand on level ground;<br \/>\nin the great congregation I will praise the LORD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Psalm 26 continues with the reasons why he think YHWH should &#8220;vindicate&#8221; or decide in his favor, and now he turns more toward religious practices in the Temple.
