Are they born into their group or do they convert into this group?<br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is the question Brad Wright asks and probes in the 4th chap of his excellent new book, <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0764207466?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0764207466\">Christians Are Hate-Filled Hypocrites&#8230;and Other Lies You&#8217;ve Been Told: A Sociologist Shatters Myths From the Secular and Christian Media<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0764207466\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Here are some basic numbers, and the numbers are what percent are born into that group:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Prots 82<\/div>\n<div>RCC 89<\/div>\n<div>EOrth 77<\/div>\n<div>Jewish 85<\/div>\n<div>Muslim 60<\/div>\n<div>Buddhist 27<\/div>\n<div>Hindu 90<\/div>\n<div>Mormon 73<\/div>\n<div>JW 32<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Which is a way of indicating how evangelistic groups are. But this isn&#8217;t the whole story, and Brad Wright&#8217;s study has some interesting facts about Evangelicals.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n50% of Evangelicals were raised Evangelical. 30% were raised in Mainline or historically Black traditions; 10% were raised RCC. 6% were raised outside of Christianity completely and 2% were raised in another religion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Conversions count for a relatively small percentage of evangelicals.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So what about retention rates?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Prots 80%<\/div>\n<div>RCC 68%<\/div>\n<div>EOrtho 72%<\/div>\n<div>Mormons 71%<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Unaffiliated retain only about 45% of its own.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Brad&#8217;s study shows about 74% of Evangelical youth remain Evangelical. 7% join another denomination, mostly Mainline. 3% join another religion. 16% disaffiliated altogether.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where do Evangelical and Protestant church members come from?
