It is not entirely clear at times whether the speaker is speaking of the King or of YHWH, but the two are clearly interwoven, something that is both true of the Psalms and a potential source of concern in our world today.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In effect, the task of YHWH\/the King is to defeat the enemies in their opposition to the King. The psalmist celebrates victory:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\">\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Times;font-size: medium\"><\/p>\n<div>8&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp; Your hand will find out all your enemies;<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>your right hand will find out those who hate you.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>9&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>You will make them like a fiery furnace<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>when you appear.<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath,<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>and fire will consume them.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>10&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>You will destroy their offspring from the earth,<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>and their children from among humankind.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>11&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>If they plan evil against you,<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>if they devise mischief, they will not succeed.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>12&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>For you will put them to flight;<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>you will aim at their faces with your bows.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Times\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium\">But the celebration is directed at YHWH, not the king. This is seen in v. 13. It is YHWH who is on high. This psalm is used on the Feast of the Ascension, and the enemies defeated are seen as the powers and authorities. It fits perfectly, then, with 1 Corinthians 15 and the early Christian gospel of celebrating the victory of Christ in his resurrection and of Christ&#8217;s exaltation to the right hand of the Father.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>Psa. 21:0 &nbsp; To the leader. A Psalm of David.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>1&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>In your strength the king rejoices, O LORD,<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>and in your help how greatly he exults!&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>2&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t<\/span>You have given him his heart&#8217;s desire,<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\">\t\t<\/span>and have not withheld the request of his lips.
