They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every
\nday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke
\nbread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are a number of elements involved when Luke says the early messianists were “together.”<\/p>\n

The fourth characteristic of what happens when Pentecost comes on the messianists is that they did life together (“living together” doesn’t sound right).<\/i> Every day they met in the temple courts; every day they ate with one another; every day they were enjoying the people’s favor.<\/p>\n

This “everydayness” is notable and distinctive. This wasn’t a Sunday-at-church fellowship, but a daily fellowship that was leading to daily conversions. This doesn’t seem to be forced or required but instead prompted by God’s Spirit at work among them.<\/p>\n

What happens when Pentecost happens? Pentecost is designed by God to turn individualists into fellowship-ists. The family becomes the family of God and family becomes the focus. It is both a public family and a private fellowship family. <\/p>\n

They were swept into praising God for what God was doing, which is what Pentecost is all about: what God does.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
