John Franke was installed as the Lester and Kay Clemens Professor of Missional Theology. It may have been the most satisfying and stimulating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblical.edu\/pages\/connect\/franke%20installation.htm\">theological conference<\/a> I&#8217;ve ever attended.<!--more|inline--><br \/>\nJohn Franke is at the cutting edge of moving &#8220;missional&#8221; from the practical theology disciplines to the heart of systematic theology (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fsearch%2F%3Fsearch-alias%3Dstripbooks%26unfiltered%3D1%26field-keywords%3D%26field-author%3Dfranke%252C%2Bjohn%26field-title%3D%26field-isbn%3D%26field-publisher%3D%26node%3D%26url%3D%26field-feature%5Fbrowse-bin%3D%26field-binding%5Fbrowse-bin%3D%26field-subject%3D%26field-language%3D%26field-dateop%3D%26field-datemod%3D%26field-dateyear%3D%26sort%3Drelevancerank%26Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.x%3D0%26Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.y%3D0&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Franke books<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/>), so it was an honor for me to be invited to be one of the speakers. In fact, the four plenary speakers reflects something about John: his ecumenical vision and his missional theology. Tim Keel, pastor at Jacob&#8217;s Well, spoke about the crisis of imagination. Darrell Guder, famous as one of the main architects of &#8220;missional theology,&#8221; spoke on the promise and perils of &#8220;missional.&#8221; And then Brian McLaren spoke on the epistemology, and he reflected on 1 Cor 8 and the use of knowledge for destruction. I&#8217;m sure all the talks are on CD, but I don&#8217;t have the link &#8212; so if someone does have the link, send it along.<br \/>\nDave Dunbar, President at Biblical and a friend of mine since the early 80s, and John Franke selected from three segments of John&#8217;s work: evangelical, mainline, and emergent. It was a hearty brew and mix. I think everyone would agree.<br \/>\nIt was fun for me to see so many friends: JR Briggs, Todd Hiestand, Sherry Kull and some academic friends (I&#8217;ll not name them all). I got to chat with Kent Berghuis who wrote the best book on fasting I&#8217;ve read, and I even saw some of the students in my class I taught there on Galatians. When we were done &#8212; and they scheduled this event with enough breaks to keep us from fatigue &#8212; some of us went to Applebee&#8217;s for brews and appertizers and chat.<br \/>\nThanks John and Dave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday morning I flew out to Philadelphia to speak at Biblical Seminary.
