We begin a new biblical study on the word “gospel” today. We will start with some references in the Psalms and then tomorrow in Isaiah before we turn to the New Testament.
\nWhat these text reveal is that “good news” or “glad tidings” or “gospel” are expressions for verbal declaration of the act of God. Notice also what they declare:
\n1. Deliverance.
\n2. Salvation.
\n3. Glory.
\n4. His marvelous works.
\n5. The Kingship of God and his imminent judgment that will bring justice.
\nPsa. 40:9 \t I have told the glad news of deliverance<\/strong>
\nin the great congregation;
\nsee, I have not restrained my lips,
\nas you know, O LORD.
\nPsa. 68:11 \t The Lord gives the command;
\ngreat is the company of those who bore the tidings:
\nPsa. 96:1 \t O sing to the LORD a new song;
\nsing to the LORD, all the earth.
\n2 \tSing to the LORD, bless his name;
\ntell of<\/strong> his salvation<\/strong> from day to day.
\n3 \tDeclare his glory <\/strong>among the nations,
\nhis marvelous works<\/strong> among all the peoples.
\n4 \tFor great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
\nhe is to be revered above all gods.
\n5 \tFor all the gods of the peoples are idols,
\nbut the LORD made the heavens.
\n6 \tHonor and majesty are before him;
\nstrength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
\nPsa. 96:7 \t Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
\nascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
\n8 \tAscribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
\nbring an offering, and come into his courts.
\n9 \tWorship the LORD in holy splendor;
\ntremble before him, all the earth.
\nPsa. 96:10 \t Say among the nations, ???The LORD is king!
\nThe world is firmly established; it shall never be moved.
\nHe will judge the peoples with equity.??? <\/strong>
\n11 \tLet the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
\nlet the sea roar, and all that fills it;
\n12 \t\tlet the field exult, and everything in it.
\nThen shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
\n13 \t\tbefore the LORD; for he is coming,
\nfor he is coming to judge the earth.
\nHe will judge the world with righteousness,
