But, still, a good point to be made: the preaching shifts to redemption in Christ in a direct and clear manner.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"VerseNum\">Acts 8:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=8&amp;v=1&amp;t=NIVP#\">4<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=8&amp;v=1&amp;t=NIVP#\">5<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ<a class=\"ftnt\" name=\"fnt_1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=8&amp;v=1&amp;t=NIVP#_fnt_1\"><\/a> there.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Acts 9:19 Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=9&amp;t=nivp#\">20<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And this text by Peter says it all:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"VerseNum\">Acts 10:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">34<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>Then Peter began to speak: &#8220;I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">35<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">36<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, <b>telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.<\/b> <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">37<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached- <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">38<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>how<br \/>\nGod anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how<br \/>\nhe went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of<br \/>\nthe devil, because God was with him.<span class=\"VerseNum\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">39<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>&#8220;We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">40<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">41<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>He<br \/>\nwas not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already<br \/>\nchosen-by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">42<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>He<br \/>\ncommanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one<br \/>\nwhom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. <span class=\"VerseNum\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/tools\/printerFriendly.cfm?b=Act&amp;c=10&amp;t=nivp#\">43<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span>All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The gospel that was preached was a gospel about redemption through Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of changes, here is the &#8220;gospel\/kerygma&#8221; according to Irenaeus (from <i>Against Heresies<\/i> 1.10.1):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Church, though dispersed through our the whole world, even to the<br \/>\nends of the earth, has received from the apostles and their disciples this<br \/>\nfaith: <\/p>\n<p>[She believes] in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven, and<br \/>\nearth, and the sea, and all things that are in them; <\/p>\n<p>and in one Christ Jesus,<br \/>\nthe Son of God, who became incarnate for our salvation; <\/p>\n<p>and in the Holy<br \/>\nSpirit, who proclaimed through the prophets <\/p>\n<p>the dispensations(6) of God, and<br \/>\nthe advents, and the birth from a virgin, and the passion, and the<br \/>\nresurrection from the dead, and the ascension into heaven in the flesh of the<br \/>\nbeloved Christ Jesus, our Lord, and His [future] manifestation from heaven in<br \/>\nthe glory of the Father &#8220;to gather all things in one,&#8221;(7) and to raise up anew<br \/>\nall flesh of the whole human race, <\/p>\n<p>in order that to Christ Jesus, our Lord,<br \/>\nand God, and Saviour, and King, according to the will of the invisible Father,<br \/>\n&#8220;every knee should bow, of things in heaven,, and things in earth, and things<br \/>\nunder the earth, and that every tongue should confess&#8221;(8) to Him, and that He<br \/>\nshould execute just judgment towards all; that He may send &#8220;spiritual<br \/>\nwickednesses,&#8221;(9) and the angels who transgressed and became apostates,<br \/>\ntogether with the ungodly, and unrighteous, and wicked, and profane among men,<br \/>\ninto everlasting fire; but may, in the exercise of His grace, confer<br \/>\nimmortality on the righteous, and holy, and those who have kept His<br \/>\ncommandments, and have persevered in His love, some from the beginning [of<br \/>\ntheir Christian course], and others from [the date of] their repentance, and<br \/>\nmay surround them with everlasting glory. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8220;gospel&#8221; changes at Acts 1-2.
