{"id":4000,"date":"2008-07-30T00:10:02","date_gmt":"2008-07-30T00:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jesuscreed\/2008\/07\/heaven-19.html"},"modified":"2008-07-30T00:10:02","modified_gmt":"2008-07-30T00:10:02","slug":"heaven-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jesuscreed\/2008\/07\/heaven-19.html","title":{"rendered":"Heaven 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Acts 7 also has a very interesting reference to &#8220;heaven.&#8221; Here are three texts in Acts 7:<!--more|inline--><br \/>\n42: But God turned away from them and handed them over to worship the host of <strong>heaven<\/strong>, as it is written in the book of the prophets &#8230;<br \/>\nBut it is a combination of v. 49 and vv. 55-56 that lead to insight:<br \/>\n48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made with human hands; as the prophet says,<br \/>\n49 \t<strong>?Heaven<\/strong> is my throne,<br \/>\nand the earth is my footstool.<br \/>\nWhat kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,<br \/>\nor what is the place of my rest?<br \/>\n50 \tDid not my hand make all these things??<br \/>\n54   When they heard these things, they became enraged and ground their teeth at Stephen.  55 But filled with the Holy Spirit, he gazed into <strong>heaven<\/strong> and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.  56 ?Look,? he said, ?I see the <strong>heavens<\/strong> opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!?  57 But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him.<br \/>\nFirst, heaven again can refer to the sky and things therein.<br \/>\nSecond, heaven stands in contrast to earth as the place of God and the place God created. Heaven is God&#8217;s throne. It does not say heaven <em>is where my throne exists.<\/em><br \/>\nThird, Stephen sees into the heavens and in the heavens he sees Jesus seated next to God. So once again heaven is connected to the throne of God.
