Canada! who came down to watch the NHL Winter Classic (Detroit vs. Chicago) at Wrigley.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jesuscreed\/assets_c\/2009\/01\/WrigleyHockey-2649.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/120\/import\/assets_c\/2009\/01\/WrigleyHockey-thumb-333x194-2649.jpg\" alt=\"WrigleyHockey.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px;text-align: center\" height=\"194\" width=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/span>Seeing this ice hockey makes me think of Minnesota, which leads me to this: If I were not busy, I&#8217;d love to participate in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethel.edu\/special-events\/pietist\/\">this conference on pietism<\/a> at Bethel, up in Minnesota. Outstanding list of speakers and great topics. I heartily endorse it. Along with this, ever consider studying with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reclaimingthemind.org\/blog\/2009\/01\/the-theology-program-online-starts-next-tuesday-enroll-today\/\">Reclaiming the Mind<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>The best thing I read this last week, and in my top five for the year. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctlibrary.com\/ct\/2008\/december\/20.51.html\">Tim Keller<\/a>. My favorite paragraph: &#8220;People who live in the moral-performance narrative use sarcastic,<br \/>\nself-righteous putdown humor, or have no sense of humor at all. Lewis<br \/>\nspeaks of &#8220;the unsmiling concentration upon Self, which is the mark of<br \/>\nhell.&#8221; The gospel, however, creates a gentle sense of irony. We find a<br \/>\nlot to laugh at, starting with our own weaknesses. They don&#8217;t threaten<br \/>\nus anymore because our ultimate worth is not based on our record or<br \/>\nperformance.&#8221; Thanks Pastor Keller. A good word, a timely word, a good reminder.<\/p>\n<p>I deeply appreciate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markgalli.com\/galliblog\/\">Mark Galli&#8217;s leadership<\/a> and CT&#8217;s commitment to thinking through financial issues as well endure economic stresses in one form or another. And this piece about <a href=\"http:\/\/learnings.leadnet.org\/2009\/01\/not-in-our-church-pastors-unaware-of-members-financial-struggles.html\">what pastors know of the parishioners&#8217; debts<\/a> is worth clipping as a reminder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.subversiveinfluence.com\/wordpress\/?p=1911\">Missional Tribe<\/a>&#8230; keep your eye on on this one. And <a href=\"http:\/\/brackishfaith.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/are-you-mino.html\">Ben Wheatley<\/a> coins the expression for &#8220;MINO&#8221; &#8212; mission in name only. Take his test: Are you mino? One of Adam Hamilton&#8217;s points yesterday was the end of conservatism and the rise of a third way or a gravitation to the center; read <a href=\"http:\/\/johnharmstrong.typepad.com\/john_h_armstrong_\/2009\/01\/robert-v-remini-historian-to-the-house-of-representatives.html\">John Armstrong&#8217;s sketch<\/a> of Remini&#8217;s study with a similar conclusion. The <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.christianitytoday.com\/outofur\/archives\/2009\/01\/the_next_big_th.html#more\">next BIG things<\/a> in the Christian world and <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.christianitytoday.com\/outofur\/archives\/2009\/01\/video_ur_2008_i.html\">then a video here<\/a> &#8212; and you must read their little captions &#8212; hilarious. <a href=\"http:\/\/lukasandhisworldofbeer.blogspot.com\/2009\/01\/beer-thoughts-christmas-gifts.html\">To Lukas from Lukas<\/a> &#8212; a great tradition now in its second generation. Jim Martin finishes his series for <a href=\"http:\/\/godhungry.org\/?p=1740\">pastors<\/a>. Here&#8217;s a pastor vexed about injustices and pleading with Christians to develop some <a href=\"http:\/\/eugenecho.wordpress.com\/2009\/01\/03\/be-very-angry-about-slavery\/\">righteous indignation<\/a>.
