Brian McLaren has a new book out called <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FFinding-Our-Way-Again-Practices%2Fdp%2F0849901146%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1209563634%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Finding Our Way Again<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><\/em>. The subtitle is <em>The Return of the Ancient Practices<\/em>. Brian&#8217;s is a book introducing a series of volumes (one of which is mine on Fasting) on the spiritual disciplines.<!--more|inline--><br \/>\nClassic and vintage Brian, yet it is not at all more of what we&#8217;ve already heard in his recent books. This is a book where Brian moves into spiritual practices. It swallows up the ancient practices into a holistic sense of spirituality. <em>FOWA<\/em> forms a brief introduction to the books in this series, yet it does so in a way that it reads completely as a book on its own.<br \/>\nHe has a chp on Jesus and one on Paul: &#8220;instead of reading Jesus primarily in the light of Paul, we need to read Paul primarily in the light of Jesus&#8221; (41). A chp called &#8220;Open-Source Spirituality.&#8221;<br \/>\nHis chp on Shallow Trouble, Deep Trouble is the most balanced approach of Brian&#8217;s I&#8217;ve seen yet on kingdom now and heaven in the future, on kingdom and salvation. He seeks for a 3d Way: mutuality that combines the contemplative way and the activist way.<br \/>\nHe uses a few chps to sketch his bigger vision of spirituality and then explores the disciplines that will appear in this series of books.
