Paul didn’t quote the Jesus Creed just once; I believe that he not only recited it along with Shema<\/em> daily but also taught it as a foundational principle for Christian living. So, in chp 23 of 40 Days Living the Jesus Creed<\/a>\"\"<\/em> I look at another instance of Paul quoting Jesus Creed — the second half again — and his reflection can lead us to prepare for Pentecost. Have you seen this at Paraclete’s site? I like it.<\/param><\/param><\/embed><\/object>Reduced to one debt, Paul says, we owe others one thing: the Jesus Creed. Here is Romans 13:8 in context. 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another<\/strong>, for he who loves <\/strong>his fellowman has fulfilled the law<\/strong>. 9 The commandments, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Do not commit adultery,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Do not murder,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Do not steal,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Do not covet,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and whatever other commandment there may be<\/strong>, are summed up in this one rule<\/strong>: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Love your neighbor as yourself.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d 10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.<\/em>Here is a trained theologian; someone who knew his Torah inside and out. And, after he heard what Jesus taught, stood the Torah on its head and learned to read it as expressions of the Jesus Creed.Our debt to love others, as we glean from Romans 13, means not wronging the other, not judging, and looking out for others.Pentecost is the Spirit coming on God’s people so they can be God’s people in this world.<\/em> Being God’s people means loving others as we love ourselves.
