Green (a Salvationist himself) and his new book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FLife-Ministry-William-Booth-Salvation%2Fdp%2F0687052734%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1199556653%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Life and Ministry of William Booth<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><\/em>. It&#8217;s a good read about a major figure in 19th Century English (and American) Evangelicalism, shaped as Booth was by Wesleyan theology. <!--more|inline--><br \/>\nBooth was born into poverty; he was thrust into providing for his family in Nottingham England at a young age.<br \/>\nHe was converted and the conversion both stuck and took deep root &#8212; he became a fireball of an activist from the very beginning. He was thoroughly missional &#8212; both evangelism and social work were tied into the fabric of his life.<br \/>\nBooth and his wife, about whom Green has also written (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FCatherine-Booth-Biography-Cofounder-Salvation%2Fdp%2F080105706X%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1199556976%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Catherine Booth<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><\/em>), were at the forefront of getting women behind pulpits and into leadership.<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s lots to tell here &#8230; Booth&#8217;s family struggles, his difficulty in finding a denominational home (he was not easy to get along with), and the beginnings of his missional work &#8230; and it simply flourished.
