Our third word for Advent is “light.” Here is John 1:4-5: “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” How is the Word also “light”?
\nChristmas is the time of Bright Light, the time when God makes his message bright and clear.
\nLight is connected to the presence and being of God.
\nLight is connected to truth and to revelation and knowledge by revelation.
\nLight is connected, therefore, to Torah and to Wisdom.
\nSo, by calling Jesus the “light” John says Jesus is the Christmas message in Person, the message that brings the presence of God, the truth of God, and is himself the Archetypal Revelation that gave rise to the Torah and to Wisdom.
\nThe Word becomes flesh, the Word who is life and light, for humans. God sends the Light so Humans can know God. This light gives life.
