{"id":2945,"date":"2007-12-03T00:20:54","date_gmt":"2007-12-03T00:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jesuscreed\/2007\/12\/ancientevangelical-future-conf.html"},"modified":"2007-12-03T00:20:54","modified_gmt":"2007-12-03T00:20:54","slug":"ancientevangelical-future-conf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jesuscreed\/2007\/12\/ancientevangelical-future-conf.html","title":{"rendered":"Ancient-Evangelical Future Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday and Saturday, along with Kevin Vanhoozer and Edith Humphrey, as well as Howard Snyder, Vince Bacote, David Fitch, and David Neff, I participated in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aefcenter.org\/\">Ancient-Evangelical Future Call conference<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seminary.edu\/index.php\">Northern Baptist&#8217;s Seminary<\/a>&#8216;s pleasant surroundings.<!--more|inline--><br \/>\nThe focus of our attention was the primacy of the biblical narrative in articulating our faith. Papers were officially presented by Kevin (Fri afternoon) and I (evening) and then Edith (Sat morning). Kevin focused on the &#8220;Drama of the Christ,&#8221; drawing on his book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FDrama-Doctrine-Canonical-Linguistic-Approach-Christian%2Fdp%2F0664223273%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1196546943%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Drama of Doctrine<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><\/em>. My presentation was on &#8220;stories of the Story,&#8221; which focused on how we read the Bible. Edith focused on the necessary importance of having both propositions and story, giving neither the primacy.<br \/>\nThis was not just papers, though. Phil Kenyon and David Neff know that a productive conference turns attenders into participants, so the presentations were short and then we had both table conversation, public conversation between the speakers about each paper and then those who attended were welcomed to ask questions.
