Walsh and Keesmaat address the so-called &#8220;objectivity&#8221; of truth in chp 7 of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FColossians-Remixed-Subverting-Brian-Walsh%2Fdp%2F0830827382%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1189866976%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\">Colossians Remixed<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\" \/><\/em>.<!--more|inline--><br \/>\nThey proceed by reminding us that truth is <em>commitment <\/em> &#8212; it is relational, fidelity, and covenantal. And the nervousness about talking about truth this way is called &#8220;Cartesian anxiety.&#8221; They say &#8220;Fear not.&#8221;<br \/>\nIsn&#8217;t this then just relative to one &#8216;s commitment? Yes. Precisely. And they critique the idolatry of &#8220;rationalism&#8221; that thinks that all truth must be subject to rational proof. They argue that this rational approach to truth masks that at the deeper level there is a <em>commitment <\/em>to rationalism.<br \/>\nW-K contend we need first to be committed to Jesus. &#8220;The commitment to reason &#8230; is the most insidious idolatry to capture the imagination of the church in its history&#8221; (119). What makes it serious and insidious is that most don&#8217;t recognize it as a commitment, a previous layer of commitment from which everything hangs.<br \/>\nBut, their interrogators ask, is truth &#8220;out there&#8221; &#8212; is it objective?
