We&#8217;ve looked at <a href=\"http:\/\/jesuscreed.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/top-ten-books-spiritual-formation.html\">Spiritual Formation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/jesuscreed.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/top-ten-books-missional-formation.html\">Missional Formation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/jesuscreed.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/top-ten-books-jesus-books.html\">Jesus books<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/jesuscreed.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/top-ten-books-apostle-paul.html\">Apostle Paul<\/a>. This one is on New Testament Theology, by which I mean books that take on the big picture of the New Testament synthetically (which is rare) or which sort out the &#8220;theologies&#8221; of the various authors\/figures in the New Testament (which is what most do).<\/p>\n<p>But, first this: some have suggested we read the NT first. Of course. It goes without saying. But most people don&#8217;t need suggestions on where to find a Bible. With the incredible variety and overwhelming number of books (and blogs!) being published, sometimes it is of help to hear what others recommend.<\/p>\n<p>1.    G.E. Ladd, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">A New Testament Theology<\/span><br \/>2.    G.B. Caird, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">New Testament Theology<\/span> (finished by Lincoln Hurst)<br \/>3.    P. Stuhlmacher, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Biblical Theology of the New Testament<\/span> (2 vols.; forthcoming; available                  now only in German; but soon to come out from Eerdmans)<br \/>4.    J.D.G. Dunn, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Unity and Diversity in the New Testament<\/span><br \/>5.    O. Cullmann, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Christ and Time<\/span> and <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Salvation in History<\/span> (two classics rarely read today)<br \/>6.    R. Hays, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">The Moral Vision of the New Testament<\/span> (limited theme; rich study)<br \/>7.    R. Bultmann, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Theology of the New Testament<\/span> (hard to know where to put this; but has to                 be here somewhere)<br \/>8.    C. Rowland, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Christian Origins<\/span><br \/>9.    G. Strecker, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Theology of the New Testament<\/span><br \/>10.    E. Stauffer, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">New Testament Theology<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are two others by noted Evangelicals:<\/p>\n<p>D. Guthrie, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">New Testament Theology<\/span><br \/>I.H. Marshall, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">New Testament Theology<\/span> (which I nominated for a Gold Medallion Award, but             don&#8217;t know if it won or not)<span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, if you can read German or French, there are some others:<\/p>\n<p>K. Berger, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Theologiegeschichte des Urchristentums<\/span><br \/>J. Gnilka, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Theologie des Neuen Testaments<\/span><br \/>F.
