Maynard<\/a>.<br \/>\nNope, this might be the post of the week: <a href=\"http:\/\/getting-free.blogspot.com\/2007\/06\/more-than-compassion.html\">T. Freeman<\/a>.<!--more|inline--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yale.edu\/divinity\/news\/070625_news_childs.shtml\">Brevard Childs<\/a> has died. As a young professor I reviewed a book of his, sent him the review, he sent me a very kind note, and then the magazine (TSF Bulletin) published his letter. I will never forget his generosity in response to my review. When we began the Zarley Lectures, Childs was earmarked early as a lecturer so we wrote him; he declined for health reasons. The next SBL he looked me up and apologized. This was the kind of man Childs was. RIP.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/jesustheradicalpastor.blogspot.com\/2007\/06\/santiagos-cross-old-man-and-sea.html\">John Frye&#8217;s post<\/a> and question about <em>The Old Man and the Sea<\/em>. I think Hemingway romanticizes suffering and uses the Christ-image for it.<br \/>\nEvery now and then I link to some of my steady reads, and sometimes I repeat myself because the turnover of readers here is so high &#8212; but <a href=\"http:\/\/bradboydston.blogspot.com\/\">Brad Boydston&#8217;s daily post<\/a> is a collection of news and fun. And of course Jim Martin is up to his usual wise stuff <a href=\"http:\/\/godhungry.org\/?p=718\">here<\/a>. Now steady readers of Jesus Creed know that these are two of my favorites, but these two steady bloggers drip wisdom.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barna.org\/FlexPage.aspx?Page=BarnaUpdateNarrowPreview&amp;BarnaUpdateID=273\">Barna&#8217;s new report <\/a>on how Christians perceive and respond to the poverty issues in the USA.<br \/>\nGood for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/opinion\/chi-070624kass-column,1,3961070.column?coll=chi-opinionfront-hed\">John Kass and Quinn McCloskey<\/a>. The leader of baseball should call Bonds&#8217; run to the record to a halt before it happens.<br \/>\nCool site of the week: I don&#8217;t think I noticed the look of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themooresonline.org\/blog\/\">Brian Moore&#8217;s blog<\/a> until now. How cool is it! And he links on that page to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theopedia.com\/Main_Page\">Theopedia<\/a>, which might make for a good link for many of us. I&#8217;ve added it to my (already way too long and in need of pruning) blogroll.<br \/>\n1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/politics\/chi-070623obama-religion,1,1721448.story?coll=chi-news-hed\">Obamafaith<\/a>.<br \/>\n2. Anyone have an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/chi-sun_iphone_0624jun24,0,4103593.story?coll=chi-bizfront-hed\">Apple iPhone<\/a> yet? Some of you know that I&#8217;m a Neanderthal when it comes to cell phones. Other than Kris&#8217; daily call during her commute home, I get about 2 calls a week &#8212; but last week, when playing golf, I got two calls (Kris to say the brakes were going and Laura to say the Cubs traded Barrett). Here&#8217;s a more complete <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2007\/TECH\/ptech\/06\/25\/apple.iphone.ap\/index.html\">iPhone article<\/a>. Looks really cool. Now they say there is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/chi-fri_iphonejun29,1,3320653.story?coll=chi-news-hed\">iFrenzy<\/a>.<br \/>\n4. <a href=\"http:\/\/news.aol.com\/topnews\/articles\/_a\/mayor-bans-bottled-water-for-city\/20070623153109990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001\">Weaning a city from the bottle<\/a>.<br \/>\n5. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northpark.edu\/home\/index.cfm?northpark=RNews.RNews_Story&amp;ID=2077\">Matt Lindahl,<\/a> a former student and fantastic golfer who pushed me all over the course this week &#8212; and it was huge fun watching his drives disappear into the horizon, has a new business: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caddiestogo.com\/caddiestogo\/index.aspx\">caddiestogo<\/a>. I hope some of youi can find a way to support him.<br \/>\n6. If we can make laws that permit us to keep telemarketers from calling us, can we not also make laws that keep spammers from loading up our e-mailboxes? Anyone know of anything being done? I&#8217;d like to support the cause. I get about 1200 spams a week caught by my blog spam-detector and about 1000 e-mails a week trapped by North Park&#8217;s spam-detector.<br \/>\n7. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/features\/lifestyle\/living\/chi-mxa0622tempointernetjun22,1,3515138.column?coll=chi-living-hed\">Amen, brother Steve Johnson<\/a>!<br \/>\n8. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2007\/US\/06\/26\/gator.attack.ap\/index.html\">Hit it straight<\/a>; keep it in the fairway.<br \/>\n9. I sat there and laughed as the Wrigley went delirious.
