Missional Jesus publicly announces the centrality of himself to the mission of God (4:21).<br \/>\n2. Missional Jesus sees his own mission in Isa 61:1-2, that means his mission involves justice for the poor, prisoners, the blind, and the oppressed.<br \/>\n[Note: Jesus sounds like Mary and John Baptist.]<br \/>\n3. The mission of Jesus is a Jubilee mission (4:19).<br \/>\n4. The mission of Jesus creates disturbances and rejection (4:24).<br \/>\n5. Homies reject Jesus (4:24-29).<br \/>\n6. The mission of Jesus will extend beyond the normal boundaries.<br \/>\n<em>Luke 4:16    \tHe went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,  17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:  18 \t\u201cThe Spirit of the Lord is on me,<br \/>\nbecause he has anointed me<br \/>\nto proclaim good news to the poor.<br \/>\nHe has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners<br \/>\nand recovery of sight for the blind,<br \/>\nto set the oppressed free,<br \/>\n19 \tto proclaim the year of the Lord\u2019s favor.\u201df<br \/>\nLuke 4:20    \tThen he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.  21 He began by saying to them, \u201cToday this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.\u201d<br \/>\nLuke 4:22    \tAll spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. \u201cIsn\u2019t this Joseph\u2019s son?\u201d they asked.<br \/>\nLuke 4:23    \tJesus said to them, \u201cSurely you will quote this proverb to me: \u2018Physician, heal yourself!\u2019 And you will tell me, \u2018Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.\u2019\u201d<br \/>\nLuke 4:24    \t\u201cTruly I tell you,\u201d he continued, \u201cprophets are not accepted in their hometowns. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah\u2019s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosyg in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed\u2014only Naaman the Syrian.\u201d<br \/>\nLuke 4:28    \tAll the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.  29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff.  30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.  <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Mary and John Baptist now watching from the sideline (as it were), Jesus becomes the center stage as we work our way through the themes connected to Missional Jesus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":298,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[41],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2292","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-missional-jesus"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
