The psalmist tells us that the Olam God, the Forever God, the God who is in and of himself the very life that sustains who we are, is “faithful”. The Olam God, therefore, has an Olam Faithfulness. God remains true to God’s very self and character; God’s truth is a faithfulness. Notice these words:
\n“Your faithfulness is for all generations … they stand to this day to carry out Your rulings, for all are Your servants” (119:90-91).
\nIn the Bible, humans are not “faithful.” God alone is faithful; God alone maintains the true direction and abides perfectly in character.
\nNotice these other verses that speak of God’s utter faithfulness, and the Hebrew word is emunah<\/em> — a line that is true, a line that is faithful, truth and faithfulness to character merging into this one Hebrew word.
\nDeut 32:4: He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
\nand all his ways are just.
\nA faithful God who does no wrong,
\nupright and just is he.
\nIs. 11:5 Righteousness will be his belt
\nand faithfulness the sash around his waist.
\nIs. 25:1 LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name,
\nfor in perfect faithfulness
\nyou have done wonderful things,
\nthings planned long ago.
\nWhat I like perhaps most here is the thought that God’s faithfulness, like God, is Olam. It can be counted on because God can be counted on.
\nAnd what I also like is that God is faithful to “all” generations: from generation to generation, not just to one, but to each and everyone, now and forever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
