Many of us — and I wish even more than that — will recite the Lord’s Prayer today as a community of faith. Here’s a liturgical shaping of that prayer so that it reflects the Jesus Creed<\/em>:
\nBecause we love God, we say:
\nOur Father who art in heaven<\/em>,
\nBecause loving God means that we yearn for God to make his glory known, we say:
\nHallowed be thy name.
\nThy kingdom come.
\nThy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.<\/em>
\nBecause loving God means we love others as God loves others, we long for all to have the necessities of life, and we say:
\nGive us this day our daily bread.<\/em>
\nBecause we love others, we seek to unleash God’s grace of forgiveness and say:
\nForgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.<\/em>
\nBecause we love others, we long that they will love and live God’s will, so we say:
\nAnd lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.<\/em>
\nBecause we love God, and because we love others, we lift our hearts to God and say:
\nFor thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Forever and ever. Amen.<\/em>
