This is Kris, a guest blogger for the day. My favorite type of book is a memoir, and I recently read a new book by Sarah Kay called Pieces of Glass<\/a><\/em>. This is a young woman’s story of tragedy who was 4 months from her wedding day (as a senior at Wheaton College) when her fiance was critically injured in a skiing accident. He remains to this day in a coma.
\nBy the way, any suggestions for good memoirs? Now back to Pieces of Glass<\/em>.
\nI was impressed with Sarah’s honesty and self-disclosure as she navigates the variety of emotions and decisions that remain as a result of the accident. How difficult it is to grieve the end of a relationship when her fiance is still living. Sarah also takes us through the ups and downs of their dating relationship.
\nAs an employee at Wheaton College, the book was especially interesting to me because, along with the campus community, I rememeber weekly prayer requests for this young man (whose real name is changed in the book) and for Sarah for several months after the accident.
\nAnyone who is interested in memoirs I think would like this book. It is neat that Zondervan has a series called “What’s In Your Head?” for a National Writing Contest, which Sarah’s book won.
