A few months ago I shared with you that I was sensing a need to start an African-American leadership institute (click here<\/a>).  My primary calling always has been and always will be to reach all people.  That is why I love serving as the Lead Pastor of Colorado Community Church.  It is a joy to shepherd a congregation made of of all races, classes and many nationalities.  CCC is a true taste of what heaven is going to be like! <\/p>\n

If I could only do one thing in the kingdom of God, then, hands down, leading CCC would be it.  Thankfully, I have the freedom to do more:  Write books<\/a>, blog for Beliefnet.com, travel & speak<\/a> and launch new ministries (like Project 127<\/a>).  <\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So, after much prayer & dreaming I’ve decided to start Sankofa–An institute for transformative African-American leaders.  The goal will be to inspire servant leaders to receive wisdom form God, practice Christianity, understand our calling and sacrifice as people of the cross.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Sankofa is the West African concept that we must remember our roots as we move forward.  This is symbolized by a bird in flight that, as it soars forward, it looks backwards.  In its mouth it carries an egg.  For us this symbolizes the need for leaders who can glean from the past and lead us into Gods future.  As we do so, we nurture those things that have yet to hatch and bring for life.  “Sankofa” literally means, “It is not wrong for us to go back and find that which we have forgotten.”<\/div>\n
