{"id":505,"date":"2006-11-17T16:46:18","date_gmt":"2006-11-17T16:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2006\/11\/new-orleans-dia.html"},"modified":"2006-11-17T16:46:18","modified_gmt":"2006-11-17T16:46:18","slug":"new-orleans-dia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2006\/11\/new-orleans-dia.html","title":{"rendered":"New Orleans Diaspora"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you noticed?<\/p>\n<p>It has been a little over a year since the displaced residents of New Orleans began arriving in our home towns all around the nation.&nbsp; We have put them up in our homes, welcomed them in our churches, drove them to job interviews and sat with them as they have wrestled with what their future holds.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/neworleans3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"240\" alt=\"Neworleans3\" src=\"https:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/images\/neworleans3.jpg\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The effects of Katrina are still being felt and many of them are still suffering but in the process they have brought a unique blessing to their newly adopted hometowns&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">New Orleans Style Jazz!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you have not made it out to one of your local jazz venues you may not have noticed all of the new cats that have found solace in your city.&nbsp; These musicians from the city where jazz began are now playing in our own neighborhoods.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>They are singing the blues, at a venue near you.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/butler.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"66\" alt=\"Butler\" src=\"https:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/images\/butler.jpg\" width=\"100\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Many of these people we never would have had the chance to hear except through recordings or a visit to the Crescent City.&nbsp; The Mile High City has had the blessing of Henry Butler.&nbsp; Check out his <a href=\"http:\/\/henrybutler.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Official website<\/span><\/a> to hear some of his sounds or this story in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westword.com\/Issues\/2006-11-16\/music\/music.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Westword<\/span><\/a>.&nbsp; On his site you can watch a video of him driving a car&#8230;he&#8217;s blind!<\/p>\n<p>Better yet, get out and see what the wind blew in to your city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you noticed?
