{"id":374,"date":"2007-05-30T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-30T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2007\/05\/jesus-lost-a-fo.html"},"modified":"2007-05-30T02:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-30T02:00:00","slug":"jesus-lost-a-fo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2007\/05\/jesus-lost-a-fo.html","title":{"rendered":"Jesus lost a foot, a hand and one of his arms!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/05\/27\/cabrinishrine2_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"134\" alt=\"Cabrinishrine2_2\" src=\"https:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/images\/2007\/05\/27\/cabrinishrine2_2.jpg\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> A little over a week ago I gathered my children around the table and said, &quot;You&#8217;re not going to believe what happened last night, Jesus lost a foot,&nbsp; a hand and one of his arms!&quot;&nbsp; They were predictably shocked.<\/p>\n<p>West of Denver, at the edge of the foothills, is the Mother Cabrini Shrine.&nbsp; It is one of my favorite places to go and pray.&nbsp; Once you make the climb up the mountain, stopping occasionally to pray through the stations of the cross, you encounter a 33 foot tall statue of Jesus.&nbsp; The symbolism is inspiring.&nbsp; The statue depicts Jesus looking out over the Denver metroplex.&nbsp; If you look closely, Jesus is pulling aside part of his garment to reveal his heart to the Mile High City.&nbsp; I often go there to gain perspective upon the place to which God has called me to serve.<a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/05\/27\/cabrinishrine3_2.jpg\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/05\/27\/cabrinishrine3_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"99\" alt=\"Cabrinishrine3_3\" src=\"https:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/images\/2007\/05\/27\/cabrinishrine3_3.jpg\" width=\"150\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The statue was damaged by a bolt of lightning during a thunderstorm.&nbsp; When I told my children this, they just rolled their eyes at me for getting them so upset.<\/p>\n<p>I asked, &quot;How is Jesus going to love our city without an arm and hand?&nbsp; How is he going to give it a hug?&quot;&nbsp; <strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">My oldest daughter exclaimed, &quot;Dad, we are Jesus&#8217; arms!&quot;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.9news.com\/video\/player.aspx?sid=70476&amp;aid=34699\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Here is an arial view<\/span><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>(Here are two of the newspaper articles <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_5944929\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">here<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/search\/ci_5951695\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">here<\/span><\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little over a week ago I gathered my children around the table and said, &quot;You&#8217;re not going to believe what happened last night, Jesus lost a foot,&nbsp; a hand and one of his arms!&quot;&nbsp; They were predictably shocked.
