{"id":369,"date":"2007-05-17T08:31:02","date_gmt":"2007-05-17T08:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2007\/05\/a-father-to-the-1.html"},"modified":"2007-05-17T08:31:02","modified_gmt":"2007-05-17T08:31:02","slug":"a-father-to-the-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2007\/05\/a-father-to-the-1.html","title":{"rendered":"A Father to the Fatherless:  Getting Practical (p3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not hard for a local church to do something!<\/p>\n<p>Hope for Orphans, a ministry of Family Life, has taken on the task of resourcing the bride of Christ when it comes to orphan care.&nbsp; I have had the privilege participating in some of their endeavors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/05\/17\/orphansministry.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"116\" alt=\"Orphansministry\" src=\"https:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/images\/2007\/05\/17\/orphansministry.jpg\" width=\"100\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>They have a very practical book and DVD called, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familylife.com\/1-800-358-6329\/detail.asp?id=10089\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">&quot;Launching an Orphans Ministry in Your Church&quot;<\/span><\/a>, that is more than worth the ten dollars.&nbsp; They do a good job of walking you through the basic questions and the DVD shares two stories of how churches are offering themselves to the orphans of the world.<\/p>\n<p>The church I serve, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coloradocommunity.org\/\"><span style=\"color: #cc0000\">Colorado Community Church<\/span><\/a>, launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.project127.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #cc0000\">Project 127<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #cc0000\">&nbsp;<\/span>less than three years ago and we have met with encouraging success. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>47 children placed <\/li>\n<li>173 families in process <\/li>\n<li>75 churches represented<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have almost 800 children in Colorado&#8217;s foster care system.&nbsp; But there are also 1500 churches in the Denver metro area.&nbsp; Do the math!&nbsp; I am convinced that we will see the day that there are <u><em><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">no children waiting for homes, only families waiting for children<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/u> by 2014.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not hard for a local church to do something!
