{"id":239,"date":"2008-06-09T10:51:29","date_gmt":"2008-06-09T10:51:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2008\/06\/national-pastors-convention-feb-2009.html"},"modified":"2008-06-09T10:51:29","modified_gmt":"2008-06-09T10:51:29","slug":"national-pastors-convention-feb-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2008\/06\/national-pastors-convention-feb-2009.html","title":{"rendered":"National Pastors Convention (Feb. 2009)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#039;m looking forward to leading two workshops at the next&#160;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zondervan.com\/Cultures\/en-US\/NPC\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Pastors Convention.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the workshop descriptions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Finding the Groove:<span>&#160; <\/span>Composing a Jazz-Shaped Faith<\/font><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">You don\u2019t have to be a musician to experience the renaissance of a jazz-shaped faith.<span>&#160; <\/span>Jazz is more than music and it\u2019s the more that we can creatively apply to prayer, scripture and church life.<span>&#160; <\/span>The concepts of call &amp; response, syncopation and improvisation allow us to experience ensemble community\u2014life in concert with and for our God.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><span><strong><span>Leading a Marginal Church<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Jesus said that his gospel was good news to the marginalized and the miserable, the poor and the poor in spirit.<span>&#160; <\/span>This session will focus on the values, convictions, habits and practices of leaders who hear the cry of the vulnerable and call their congregations to spend themselves on behalf of the poor.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font>&#160;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Looking forward to seeing a lot of my blog friends there&#8230;<\/font><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#039;m looking forward to leading two workshops at the next&#160;National Pastors Convention.
