{"id":221,"date":"2008-09-04T21:49:41","date_gmt":"2008-09-04T21:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2008\/09\/the-common-good-p1.html"},"modified":"2008-09-04T21:49:41","modified_gmt":"2008-09-04T21:49:41","slug":"the-common-good-p1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2008\/09\/the-common-good-p1.html","title":{"rendered":"The Common Good (p1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The scriptures make it clear that the people of God are to be about the common good.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\">\n<p>&quot;Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. &#160;Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.&quot; &#160;Jerm. 29.7<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>Not only does God call us to the common good through Jeremiah but Jesus taught that we are to be &quot;salt and light&quot; and that the Good Samaritan was the true neighbor. &#160;At CCC our calling is to seek the transformation of our city and beyond by connecting people to christ, community and calling. &#160;Our desire is to seek the peace (the common good) as we dawn the towel and basin and wash the feet of our city.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>I&#039;ve always believed that individual believers and the church in general is to live sacrificially for the sake of society but I&#039;m being challenged as to whether or not that goes far enough. &#160;I&#039;m currently reading, &quot;A Nation for All,&quot; by Chris Korzen and Alexia Kelly in which they lay out the Catholic vision of the common good.
