It\u2019s night as I\u2019m sitting outside, staring at the stars and
\nlistening to Miles Davis on my Ipod\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m thinking about two conversations that I had this
\nweek:  Two men\u2014one black the other
\nwhite\u2014who were young men during apartheid and are now middle aged. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe white man was raised to hate.  <\/span>In the police force he was trained that blacks were no good
\nand that he had permission to shoot them. 
\n<\/span>He laments those days now that he sees the new South Africa.  <\/span>Sure, he recognizes that whites do not
\nhave as much as they had in terms in power but he says that it is more than
\nmade up for by the new friendships gained.<\/p>\n

The black man remembered how the police would fire tear gas
\nif they ever saw a gathering of blacks. 
\n<\/span>After apartheid, he became part of a traveling drama show in which he
\nplayed Stephen Biko retelling the story not for the purpose of making people
\nfeel guilty but with the hopes of reconciliation.<\/p>\n
