{"id":206,"date":"2008-11-03T22:23:13","date_gmt":"2008-11-03T22:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2008\/11\/estrip.html"},"modified":"2008-11-03T22:23:13","modified_gmt":"2008-11-03T22:23:13","slug":"estrip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2008\/11\/estrip.html","title":{"rendered":"E.S.T&#8230;R.I.P."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jazztheologian.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c63c953ef010535d0a8f3970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Est\" border=\"0\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d8341c63c953ef010535d0a8f3970b \" src=\"https:\/\/www.jazztheologian.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c63c953ef010535d0a8f3970b-320pi\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe Esbjorn Svensson Trio, E.S.T., recently released their latest and last album. &#160;Sadly, pianist Esbjorn Svensson, died earlier this year in a diving accident.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>E.S.T. has been on the cutting edge of jazz since their breakthrough in the late 90&#039;s. &#160;Their sound was unique and they were mesmerizing to watch. &#160;Who would have thought that a trio from Sweden would sell out rock venues playing jazz to throngs of fans?<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>I&#039;m currently listening to Leucocyte, the last recording of the trio together. &#160;It is vintage E.S.T. full of energy and space, frenzy and peace. &#160;If you&#039;re and E.S.T lover it&#039;s worth having just because it&#039;s their last album. &#160;If you&#039;ve not familiar with them, Leucocyte, is a good place to start even though it is the end.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-style: italic\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-size: 15px;font-family: Georgia\">(Update to this post:<\/span> &#160; I was driving with some of my kids in the car listening to one of the songs on Leucocyte, when one of my daughters yelled out, &quot;Dad, what&#039;s wrong with the radio? &#160;It sounds like it is broken!&quot; &#160;It was then that I realized that I needed to update this post. &#160;If you&#039;re into E.S.T then you&#039;ll want to get their latest release. &#160;In part because you like their music but mostly for sentimental reasons. &#160;If you&#039;ve never listened to this group then you&#039;ll want to get one of their earlier albums first, before you work your way up to this one. &#160;Now that I&#039;ve listened to it all the way through a few times I&#039;m realizing that it&#039;s a bit ethereal.)<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Esbjorn Svensson Trio, E.S.T., recently released their latest and last album. &#160;Sadly, pianist Esbjorn Svensson, died earlier this year in a diving accident.
