{"id":161,"date":"2009-03-25T22:12:30","date_gmt":"2009-03-25T22:12:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jazztheologian\/2009\/03\/i-went-to-jail-today.html"},"modified":"2009-03-25T22:12:30","modified_gmt":"2009-03-25T22:12:30","slug":"i-went-to-jail-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/jazztheologian\/2009\/03\/i-went-to-jail-today.html","title":{"rendered":"I went to jail today&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to jail today. &#160;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>A friend of mine works there and invited me to take a tour. &#160;It&#039;s sad to see beloved creations of God sitting around, wasting away, bored to death. &#160;The Arapahoe County Jail is over it&#039;s capacity by almost four hundred and so inmates are triple-bunked into their small cells at night making room for 16oo people. &#160;The common thread in most of their lives is alcohol and drug abuse. &#160;More specifically, cocaine.<\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<div>My head is swirling because I just finished Thomas Cahill&#039;s book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0385520190\/1n9867a-20\" target=\"_blank\">A Saint on Death Row: &#160;The Story of Dominique Green<\/a>. &#160; &#160;It&#039;s a story of hope, rehabilitation, reconciliation and forgiveness among the&#160;forgotten&#160;convicts who live in locked down for twenty-three hours a day. &#160;<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>Pray for our overcrowded places of incarceration. &#160;They are horrible places of hope. &#160;In the midst of the violence and mental illness God is doing his redeeming work by his Spirit and through his people who serve on the inside.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I went to jail today. &#160;
