<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>For some unresolved reason I accept the<br \/>\noffer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Selah<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><em>When<br \/>\nI survey the wondrous cross, <\/em>I am haunted<em>.<\/em><span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:.5in;text-indent:.5in\">For my soul knows&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:1.0in;text-indent:.5in\">my inmost being<br \/>\nbows in contrition&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:1.5in;text-indent:.5in\">compunction<br \/>\nconvicts.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:2.5in\">My hands, my thoughts, my eyes<br \/>\nbetray the reason<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>for the death of God.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:2.5in\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Selah<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><em>When<br \/>\nI survey the wondrous cross, <\/em>I am mystified<em>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/em>I search for it&#8217;s<br \/>\nmeaning, for its understanding&#8230;for the &#8220;why&#8217;s&#8221; of what I see.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>What was God doing on the cross?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>There are so many answers.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The more doctrine digested, the more<br \/>\nelusive and yet, simultaneously adjacent the death of God becomes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\">Peter, why couldn&#8217;t you have kept<br \/>\nit&#8217;s meaning to yourself?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>&#8220;To this<br \/>\nyou were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an <strong>example<\/strong>, that you should <strong>follow in his steps.&#8221; (I Pet. 2.21)<\/strong> Why<br \/>\nmust you involve us?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Why must you<br \/>\nsummon me?<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\">As if we want to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:.5in;text-indent:.5in\">as if I am willing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left:1.0in;text-indent:.5in\">to follow the<br \/>\nexample of Christ and His cross.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\">The cross is an example, an<br \/>\nintricate design, on which we lay the transparent parchment of our lives and<br \/>\nsketch our feeble outlines.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\">The cross is to be followed, like<br \/>\ntracks in the snow.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>We step high<br \/>\nand sink in deep to the openings made by The One who has gone before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><em>Excruciare<\/em>&#8230;Latin<br \/>\nfor &#8220;out of the cross.&#8221;<span>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Excruciating People&#8211;those who live life out of the cross.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><em>Christians&#8211;those<br \/>\nwho have accepted the invitation to live an excruciating life.<\/em><span>&nbsp; <\/span>The cross is a way of life&#8230;an<br \/>\nethos.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Mores not just morals.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The cross is a culture for<br \/>\npain-absorbing, peace-making, love-wielding, price-paying, cup-drinking people.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-indent:.5in\"><em>When<br \/>\nI survey the wondrous cross, <\/em>I am terrified.<span>&nbsp;
