Call & Response<\/span><\/strong> are a part of jazz because jazz was conceived, birthed and incubated in the church before the church abandoned IT, rejected IT and forgot IT.<\/p>\n

If improvisation highlights the fact that every person has a unique contribution to the group, call and response is the understanding that every person needs the group.  As the old adage goes, a person becomes person through other people and a Christian becomes a Christian through other Christians.  <\/p>\n

I think that this is one reason why Jesus sent out his disciples two-by-two.  Ministry is to be done in community, in response not only to the call of God on our life, but in response to the calls of others around us.  <\/p>\n
